Long Live Rock

August 6th, 2008

The Who will return to the Motorcity on Oct. 21 playing the Palace of Auburn Hills. Tickets go on sale Monday Aug. 11

I’ve seen the Who a couple of times. The most memorable was around ‘79 or ‘80 when they were scheduled to play the Silverdome and then added a last minute surprise show at Masonic. Seeing the Who in a smaller venue like Masonic was a powerful rock and roll explosion of a concert. Keith Moon had passed, but the feeling of witnessing history was very strong. I wish I could remember a setlist but I just don’t recall those facts very well. What I remember is how a particular show made me feel and the Masonic Who show was a powerful soul branding rock me to the bone experience.

Who news…Coming on November 18th will be a Blu-ray DVD of The Who: Kilburn 1977. The disc will feature two legendary shows; the band’s London Coliseum concert from December 14th, 1969 and Kilburn State Gaumont from December 15th, 1977 — which was drummer Keith Moon’s second-to-last performance with the band prior to his death the following year.

Superior Vacation

July 28th, 2008

Just got back from my camping trip in the “Porkies”. WOW! I forgot what an awesome state we live in. The scenery is second to none. One of my favorite drives is up the Keewenaw peninsula to Copper Harbor…gotta stop at the Jam Pot for the biggest muffins you’ve ever seen.

In short…

saw a black bear

fished but didn’t catch

hiked

kayaked

ate pastys

went into copper mine

went to cross in the woods

caught up on sleep

spent too much money on souveniers

Sumertime Blues

July 15th, 2008

Mid July already…slow down!

Where does the time go? I had all sorts of plans and haven’t accomplished half of them. I told myself I was going to get alot of work done around the house and I’m still writing my “to do list”. I said I was going to make sure my kids read 1 book a month, learn all their multiplication tables and do daily chores….NOTHIN YET!

I have managed to stay focused on raising my chickens. They’re a month old now and growing unbeleivably fast. I’m already thinking about getting more next year and maybe a pig. I like this self sufficent lifestyle so far. The cost has been affordable and hopefully profitable in the end.

Isn’t summer supposed to be like the Countrytime Lemonade commercials? Kickin back on the porch and watching life go by. Instead it seems like a video on fast forward.

Next week I’m going on vacation and camping in the UP. I’m going to try to slow things down and just chill. If I’m lucky my cell phone won’t work in the Porcupine Mountains.

George Carlin

June 26th, 2008

A counterculture classic passed away this week…George Carlin. His unique outlook on life was thought provoking.

A friend sent this to me and I want to share it with you. In these tough times, when the whole world is going thru a big damn change and elections are around the corner, maybe these words from George Carlin will give us reason to pause and re-examine our lives.

A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have
taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways,
but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less,
we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and
smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We
have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but
less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more
medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too
recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too
angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too
little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our
values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate
too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve
been all the way to the moon and back, but have
trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We
conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done
larger things, but not better things.

We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve
conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write
more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish
less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build
more computers to hold more information, to produce
more copies than ever, but we communicate less and
less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion,
big men and small character, steep profits and shallow
relationships. These are the days of two incomes but
more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These
are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway
morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and
pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to
kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom
window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when
technology can bring this letter to you, and a time
when you can choose either to share this insight, or
to just hit delete…

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones,
because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to
you in awe, because that little person soon will grow
up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you,
because that is the only treasure you can give with
your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, ‘I love you’ to your partner and
your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and
an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep
inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for
someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time
to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.

If you don’t send this to at least 8 people….Who
cares?

Chick Magnet

June 24th, 2008

Well I’ve had my chickens for a week now and things are going well. They’re low mainteance so far…feed em water em. After a week they’re already growing fast and losing that cute little chick fur and developing feathers.

It’s been a good lesson in responsibilty for my sons. They eagerly check on them throughout the day and are interested in joining the 4H club.

I’ll try to post some pictures soon.

Remembering Dad

June 16th, 2008

I was recently asked where I got my love for music. I had to think about it for a minute.

My dad was a tough son of a gun, a real blue collar, shot & beer kind of guy. He was into his Polish heritage and polka music. I can remember fondly, watching my mom and dad dance to the polkas. They moved like they were floating on air. My dad loved to dance and he was good at it! I’m not sure if anything else brought him such joy.

As a teenager my dad and I butt heads alot. At my mom’s insistance he allowed my rock band to rehearse in the basement, but gave me a very hard time about seeking a career in music. It took awhile to gain my dad’s respect for radio, but once he realized I made it, he would say” why don’t you host a polka show?”

I also got turned on to alot of rock n soul from my older siblings, but I think it was that lively upbeat horn powered poppin polka music I remember as a kid that first ignited my love for music.

Thanks dad, this one’s for you…

Ain’t Nothin But A HouseParty!

June 5th, 2008

Wings Win! Thanks boys for an awesome season and for taking our minds off of our troubles. What a great start to the summer. I hope the vibes take us all the way thru the summer and the Tigers pick up where the wings left off.

What were your favorite Wing Nuts from this past season?

Here’s to the Wings and Hockeytown…our cup runneth over!

The Chicken Man

May 13th, 2008

Some are calling me crazy…some say I’m being sensible…I’m going to raise chickens this summer.

Why? well my son Jon who isn’t into sports or scouts loves animals and I thought this would be a good project for him. My neighbors raise their own beef and swear by being more self sufficient. I’ve learned along the way that more and more people are doing the same to save money during these tough times. If this goes well, maybe I’ll do a cow next year.

It’s like the 60’s all over again. Maybe I’ll start a commune… raise and grow my own food, sell eggs and make candles and soap to sell.

Stay tuned for more details from Uncle Bucks Rock N Roll farm…

Hangin With Casey

April 29th, 2008

This past weekend I took part in a charity event honoring Casey Kasem and benefitting the Fenton Community & Cultural Center.

What a great man! An american icon of the 70’s and 80’s. He pretty much created syndication and “the Tease”. He was a nationaly known DJ before shock jocks ,reality tv and addiction to celebrity news. Who hasn’t listened to Casey count em down at some point in their lives. I was impressed by his genuine concern and interest in others. When I had a chance to talk to him, he seemed more interested in me and my career, than me stroking him about his  acheivements.  Wow!

Casey Kasem is from Detroit and aside from a phenominal radio career, was also the voice of Shaggy in Scooby Doo. That kinda blows my mind because Shaggy was such a hippie and Casey is so down to earth.

Casey was 38 when he started his countdown show, so with me in my mid 40’s maybe I still have a shot at worlwide domination of the airwaves.  Spread the word…Uncle Buck Rocks The Allnighter on WCSX!!
